Interview Skills – What are the key skills required for success at interview?

Let’s face it most people called for interview look like they can do the job on paper otherwise their CV would be in the bin and a “Dear John – Rejection Letter” in the post. From my years of experience the best experienced and qualified applicant does not always get the job. This is further evidence that performance on the day at interview is a key ingredient for success.

Persuading & Influencing – The ability to sell “you” is essential. After all an interview is very similar to a sales process and you are the salesperson and the product. Two important points include backing up your responses with hard evidence and ensuring you deal with objections or doubt with ease.

Focus – This knits everything together. An ability to concentrate during interview is very important. Listening to questions and giving the interview relevant information focused on their requirements.
